Public Health Wales has reported 481 more people testing positive for SLOT XO coronavirus, but no further deaths with the virus, in its latest figures. Data shows Wales' case rate is 66.5 per 100,000, up from 64.8 on Wednesday - the highest since 23 February. On Thursday, the total number of Covid cases reported in Wales reached 218,726 and total deaths remained at 5,575. While case rates continue to climb, numbers of Covid patients in Wales' hospitals have fallen to a record low. PHW has confirmed that the Delta variant has now replaced other strains of coronavirus as the dominant variant in all health board areas of Wales. What are local case rates like? Of the new cases, the most were reported in the Betsi Cadwaladr health board area (223), and Cardiff and Vale (74). The local authority with the highest case rate in Wales was Flintshire with 157.6 cases per 100,000 people for the seven-day period up to 26 June. It is one of three areas which now have rates over 100, alongside Wrexham (139.8) and Denbighshire (131.7). The lowest case rates are in Newport (20.7), Merthyr Tydfil (23.2) and Blaenau Gwent (28.6). PHW figures also show that more than half of the new coronavirus cases are being reported among young people.
